Scientists from the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) have recently published a paper in the Journal of Nanoparticle Research regarding reference materials for nanotechnology research. So far, the existing test guidelines and measurement methods are not always applicable to nanomaterials or even suitable for this purpose.
The paper provides an overview of existing types of reference materials and also introduces a new class of "representative test materials (RTM)". The three suggested concepts of certified reference material, reference material(non-certified)and representative test materialconstitute a comprehensive system of benchmarks that can be used by all measurement and testing communities, regardless of their academic background.
