The BMBF-funded project NanoGEM "Nanostructured materials - Health, Exposure and Material Properties" deals with the question to what extend particles with dimensions in the range of a millionth millimetres are affecting living organisms. The main questions were

  • when and how nanomaterials are being released
  • to what extend can the nanomaterials’ properties influence the uptake

              in the body

  • is there a risk for workers and consumers

These and many more questions have been extensively studied within the NanoGEM consortium, an interdisciplinary approach with partners from research, authorities and the industry. Funding with a total sum of 6.4 Million Euros was provided by the BMBF and the industry. Launched in 2010, the results from the 3-years of the projects runtime will be presented at the conference for various Stakeholders from research, government and industry.
