The Danish Consumer Council and the Danish Ecological Council has, in cooperation with DTU Environment developed a database "The Nanodatabase" that can help consumers to identify more than 1200 products that may contain nanomaterials. The database is available in Danish & English language and contains information on more than 1200 different products already available to Danish consumers either in stores or via Internet shops. The database is partly funded by the Danish Consumer Council and partly by the Velux Foundation (project nr. VKR022070).


Each product in the database has been assigned a short title describing the use of the nanomaterial and a colou code consisting of five dots (similar to "nano" traffic lights) referring to the potential for exposure to professional end-users, consumers or the environment and to the potential hazards for humans and the environment. The colors signify whether the risk of exposure or potential effects are high (red), medium (yellow), low (green) or unknown (grey).
