Zeolites - Exposure

Currently, nanozeolites are being tested primarily for use as substrates in biomedical applications. So far, there are no scientific data available on the general hazards of synthetically engineered nanozeolites.

Up-to-now there are no data on environmental exposure with nanozeolites. Zeolites occur naturally, but are also produced synthetically. Therefore, it is difficult to differentiate between naturally occurring zeolites and engineered zeolites.

Up to now there are very few in vitro studies on the toxicity of nanozeolites. It seems that zeolite nanoparticles only cause negative effects in cells at extremely high concentrations.

Currently, there are few results on the toxicity of synthetically produced zeolite nanoparticles from studies in humans or animals.
